"The Harder you work, the Luckier you get." Gary Player (legendary Professional Golfer)
Introduction: What is all the fuss about?
Students with fixed mindsets want to show how smart they are and hence will avoid challenge. They see challenge as just another opportunity to show that 'I can't do something'. Hence they give up easily and find ways at 'not having a go at it'. They see effort as a waste of time because they can't improve and likewise ignore feedback as it is not useful.
Growth mindset students embrace challenge - "Maybe I'll find out something new?" These students see effort as a way to improve and hence are far more resilient. They know that if they practice and practice they will get better and that they will learn from critique.
The good news is that if your child/student currently has a fixed mindset, with help, that can be changed to a growth mindset, which will then have a huge impact on their ability to learn new things.
